(Shown with Papa Marazita and Lisa Gigliotti.) The Wanderer’s Teahouse festive décor set the ambiance for stirring stories of mothers who exhibited the ultimate courage – self-less love and sacrifice in bringing their children from Italy and Eastern Europe to the US—with the prayer that their children would have a better life. Thank you to all who gathered to remember and share the courage of their maternal ancestors–an overwhelming Mother’s Day celebration!

Six days until the Invisible Illnesses Benefit Evening with Chris Trapper and his moving acoustic music! The courageous Dama sisters are hosting the event to raise awareness of invisible illnesses. Allie Dama, became seriously ill in 2008 and was finally diagnosed with polyarteritis nodosa (PAN), an autoimmune vasculitis. Katie Dama Jaskolski spent too much of 2010 and 2011 in a wheelchair before being diagnosed with Dysautonomia, an autonomic nervous system disorder, and Ehlers–Danlos syndrome (EDS) a connective tissue disorder.

Katie and Allie are reaching out to help others, despite their diseases. Katie contacted Chris to tell him his song Avalanche helped him through her long struggle for diagnosis, and later asked him to headline the fundraiser – he agreed and will fly in from his home in Boston for the Saturday night, East Lansing event! There will be a cameo Coraggio appearance as well! See you there! http://iie.lifeasazebra.com/

Easter was an important holiday in our Italian family, as important as Christmas, the day-filled with church and family feast. The Pane di Pasqua edible work of art was the centerpiece for our Easter dinner table all the years she was alive. Nonna included an egg for each family member and before leaving the feasting table the braid was broken and each family member received the colorful egg, now hard-baked, and surrounded by the lusciously soft, specialty bread.

My second elbow broke at some point last week. I will have surgery to replace the elbow as soon as the swelling and blood resolve. When the surgeon replaced my right elbow a year ago he said the left elbow would eventually break as a result of 30 years of rheumatoid arthritis destruction causing the bones to be as thin as an eggshell.

I hoped I would have a few more years before my 11th surgery but it is time to put Coraggio! into action — I choose to see the good aspects of it breaking at this time, I will make the best of the situation, and I look forward to a positive outcome with an amazing artificial elbow!
